  1. Eastern Alliance for Greenhouse Action (EAGA), Box Hill, VICTORIA, Australia

The Victorian Greenhouse Alliances work with over 70 member councils in Victoria on collaborative action for councils to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This includes:

the second largest public lighting energy efficiency program in the world

  • the largest council partnership project in Australia to purchase renewable energy
  • utilising share services models to deliver complex energy efficiency retrofits
  • managing solar and battery bulk buy projects for low income and vulnerable households
  • promoting and coordinating policy action such as a climate emergency declaration
  • measuring progress on climate change adaptation at the local scale

Victoria is unique in the capacity this group action brings to climate change progress and the Alliance model has been recognised as global best practice. This year, the Alliances are celebrating their 20th anniversary  and are assisting formation of new Alliance in south west Victoria which will see nine Alliances working across all Victoria.
